My first Frankenpolish

I think I did pretty well!

I really must praise myself for my first Frankenpolish because no one else would!

I was so excited yesterday when I mixed it all together and then swatched it! My boyfriend wasn't so excited, but how could I ask a guy for praise on nail polish! :-))

Anyway, I was inspired by these bloggers to mix together my own polish:

Here is my whole hand:

And I shall name my new nail polish:

Milky Way

I used 3 coats of "Milky Way" to make it really opaque and "Seche Vite" as top coat!
Here is a closeup of the consistency:

And last but not least, the recipe:

Take care!

Schminkmädchen's Giveaway: My Prize

Schminkmädchen held a contest and I was the lucky booby prize winner!

I was pretty amazed when I got her package yesterday because I hadn't expected such a great selection of gifts. Schminkmädchen, thank you very much!! That was very generous! The Whoosh Shower Jelly, which was also in the package, is missing in the picture because it was leaking and I had to transfer to the bathroom immediately. But nothing got stained! Big hurrah!

So I was VERY excited when I saw the Anna Sui gift set! One thing you must know is that I LOVE Anna Sui perfumes! My favorite perfume of all perfumes is Anna Sui's "Dreams". I get bottles of it every time I go to the U.S. because I can't get it here in Vienna! I have like 3 bottles at home now!

Today I am wearing the "Secret" perfume and the body lotion that were in the package and it is already on my perfume wishlist! I have got to get that full size! I love it!

Schminkmädchen, thank you very much!
You made my day yesterday!

My Essie Nail Polish Collection 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you my Essie nail polish collection!

I have 6 shades and that will be it for a while, even though I just discovered that they sell Essie at "Douglas" in Vienna now. I find them too expensive for their quality and I always have to work like a madman to get the color nice and even. But they do have some pretty shades, some pretty girly pink shades!

And here is the array:

From left to right: Lovie Dovie, Flawless, Violin, Eternal Optimist, Ballet Slippers, Pound Cake.

I have swatched two shades so far:

Essie "Violin" Nail Polish

Essie's shade Violin is on my nails right now.

I have to say Essie nail polishes require my best painting skills. They are definitely not the easiest nail polishes to work with. This shade I found particularly thin and streaky and when I saw the first coat on my nails, I doubted that I could make it work at all. I needed 3 coats to make it opaque and somewhat even and I have to admit that Seche Vite did the rest, it smoothed it out and made it look decent.

So if I had to give directions for use, this is what I would suggest:
  1. Concentrate reaaaaaaaally hard! Don't let anything distract you, like your cat... or a naked man on tv...
  2. Hold your breath while painting (you may breathe between nails) ;-)
  3. Eat an abundant meal before painting because your hands are less likely to shake
  4. Ask your boyfriend/friend/mom or whoever is around to cheer for you if you get a nail right, it will encourage you for the next one!
  5. Don't, by all means, give up, even if the first coat looks terrible. You will eventually get there, even if it means blow-drying your nails for an hour because you put on 7 coats...
I hope with these great tricks you will be able to master Essie nail polishes!
Take care!

oh, I forgot the real painting directions:
One base coat, three coats of Essie polish and one top coat.
Base coat: Essence Multi-Vitamin Nail Hardener
Top coat: Seche Vite

My MAC neutral colors

This is my MAC palette with the neutrals in it, or at least with the colors that I consider most neutral in my collection. Or, to be honest, with the colors that look nice paired together... :-)
I keep switching the pans around; when I get a new color, it has to fit in with the other colors perfectly, hence the dents in "Satin Taupe"...

First row: Black Tied, Silver Ring, Trax, Style Snob, All that Glitters

Second row: Knight Divine, Smoke & Diamonds, Shale, Satin Taupe, Mythology

Third row: Idol Eyes, Vex, Sable, Twinks, Arena

My favorite colors are Trax, Style Snob, Shale, Satin Taupe and Sable, all purples and browns. I do think MAC makes outstanding eyeshadows, and I prefer them over any other eyeshadows from any other company. Same goes for blushes, MAC excels at making the most gorgeous blushes.

I might post my other MAC palettes later or my MAC blush palettes, when I have decided what the prettiest color arangement is... :-)

In the meantime take care,

OPI "We'll Always have Paris Suede"

I am getting braver and braver with darker colors!!

This is OPI nail polish in shade "We'll Always Have Paris Suede", so not the original glossy one, but the one with the suede finish! I love it, it's a plum color with gold glitter in it and it reminds me a lot of MAC eyeshadow Trax. In fact, if Trax was a nail polish, I think this would be it :-)
Even though the suede polishes are meant to be worn alone, i.e. without top coat, I did use one anyway, I prefer the glossy look over the matte look and with this one, I love the sparkles topped with a shiny coat.

I used:

One base coat, two coats of OPI polish and one top coat.
Base coat: Essence Multi-Vitamin Nail Hardener
Top coat: Seche Vite

Tan Pigment Eyes of the Day

I used my Tan pigment today. I love pigments and I can't wait to check out the MAC Mischief Makers pigment sets, even though I have some of those colors already. I might buy them anyway and give the ones that I already have away as gifts.

This morning I grabbed my Tan pigment and a couple of other MAC eyeshadows. Even though I used 4 colors in total, only the Tan pigment really shows up, must be because the flash of my camera washes everything out.

But anyway, here are the products used:

Artdeco Eyeshadow Base
MAC Pigment Tan (all over lid and lower lashline)
MAC eyeshadows:
Shale (crease and brow bone)
Twinks (outer v and outer lower lashline)
Grand Entrance (highlight)
One coat of Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Mascara in black
One coat of MAC Plush Lash Mascara in black

The placement of shades:

Take care!

Lemming of the Day: L`Occitane Body Cream Shea Vanilla

Yesterday, after work, I was strolling on one of Vienna's main shopping streets and I saw this body cream by L'Occitane in the window of their shop. I was immediately drawn to the pretty glass jar, unfortunately, the price wasn't as pretty: 38 Euro for 200 ml of body cream is not exactly a bargain...

But it smelled so good! The combination of shea and vanilla is just my cup of tea. I have been using the Shea Butter Ultra Rich Face Cream by L' Occitane for a couple of years now, which is also frigging expensive:

But back to my original lemming: I left the shop, 200 ml of body cream will be gone so fast and 38 Euro is just so expensive. But I keep thinking about it... about the pretty jar that I could use a million things for once the cream is gone (pretty poor justification, I know), about the precious cream with the great ingredients (I don't really know about that), about treating myself once in a while because I deserve it (really?), because it was love at first sight and I just need to have it, no matter what my brain and everyone else says...
I might just as well go now and relieve my pain...
Your irrational, illusional

October 2009 Favorite Products

My favorite cosmetic products in October were:

MAC Hue lipstick (Glaze)

I have been using this one quite a lot lately, it's a soft nude pink and I usually put a warm pink lipgloss on top of it. It's very creamy and I like the feel on my lips. I have to say that most of the MAC lipsticks I own have a Lustre or Glaze finish. Some of the colors do settle in the creases of my lips, but what can you do!

The next product that I really liked lately was - surprise surprise - a Benefit product:

Benefit Dear John facial cream
I love the consistency and the smell and it feels great on my skin! It's a silky cream and it's perfect for this time of the year! Really like it!

Sephora by OPI nail polish "Puerto Vallarta Violeta"
You can find a swatch and how I like it here.

Stila Convertible Color in shade Peony
Great multi-use product, you can either dab it on the cheeks for a little bit of blush or use it as a lipstick. Peony looks a little more pink in this picture than it is in reality, it is more of a brown shade.

MAC Magic, Mirth and Mischief palettes:
Smoke & Diamonds
Devil May Dare
These are great for everyday use, they come handy and you don't have to reach for other colors. I also really really like the color selection, neutral and muted. Love Love Love!

Kiehl's Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser

I have bought my second bottle of this one, it's my favorite face wash.
It says it's for normal to dry skin, but it's also great for dry skin, and I have veeery dry skin!

These were my October favorites!

I hope you liked it,

talk to you soon!

Sephora by OPI: "Call your Mother"

Hmmm... what do you think?

It's Sephora by OPI in the shade of "Call your Mother", which probably you have seen a thousand times swatched already. This is how it looks on my nails and I am not sure if it's a little too dark for me. I just don't feel comfortable with darker colors, however, with this shade at least I can still leave the house without the urge of hiding my hands, so I guess it's not so bad.

I ordered Metro Chic too, but I have a feeling that that will go on my toes only, being even darker...

Anyway, here come the painting directions:

One base coat, two coats of "Call your Mother" polish and one top coat.

Base coat: Essence Multi-Vitamin Nail Hardener
Top coat: Seche Vite (which I tried for the first time and really liked!)

Take care!

Killed three Cosmetics

I vowed not to buy anything new before I used up my 10 specified cosmetics.
I am failing so miserably!!!
I made my commitment in July, now it's November, I have only finished three things and I have bought plenty of new stuff!

The only good thing is that I am using up stuff that has been lying around for some time and that I am clearing space. So probably, once I am done with this round, I will set up another one!

For now I am miserable because I am such a lousy cosmetics killer....

Onto the products that I have used up:

The Body Shop Of a Woman Lait de Parfum
As I have already said, I love the scent of this perfume but since I had been saving it for special occasions, I rarely used it (I was scared to run out and it is a discontinued product). It had started to lose its scent a little bit. If The Body Shop ever repromotes it, I will be there!

The Body Shop Grape Seed Dry Oil Mist
I like it, I like the grape body butter as well, basically, i like everything from The Body Shop with the scent of grape. So yes, I would repurchase this one!

L' Occitane Comfort Cleansing Fluid
This was a little bit of a surprise. I didn't like it at first, that's why I wanted to get rid of it. But in the process, I started to like it! Not to the point that I would repurchase, but I certainly enjoyed the silky feel on my dry skin!

Take care!

Lipstick on top of Gloss

This morning I misbehaved and applied lipgloss first and then lipstick. :-)
This was the result and, much to my surprise, I liked it!
I had put on a pink frosty lipgloss (MAC Lipglass Personal Taste) and it did not go with my eye makeup at all. I had to make it darker and cooler and I took my dark purple lipstick (L' Oréal Color Riche 337) that I am too scared to wear on its own (and never wore so far). I applied it on top of the lipgloss and out came a creamy, frosty, sheer berry shade.
So this was my makeup surprise this morning!

Magic, Mirth and Mischief Look

I took my "Devil May Dare Warm Eye Shadows" palette from the MAC holiday collection Magic, Mirth and Mischief today and tried it out.

I used:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
MAC Shadestick in Lucky Jade
MAC Devil May Dare Warm Eye Shadows palette
MAC pigment Golden Olive

The placement of shades:

I tapped the wet pigment over the golden and green eyeshadow a bit, to make it more vibrant!

Take care!

OPI "Puerto Vallarta Violeta"

This is LOVE spelled with capitals!!

It's OPI's Puerto Vallarta Violeta nail polish and it's definitely my new favorite! It's a lilac/mauve color and it reminds me a little bit of MAC Coygirl blush.

This will definitely be part of my upcoming October favorite products!

I used one base coat, three coats of Puerto Vallarta Violeta and one top coat.

Base coat: Essence Multi-Vitamin Nail Hardener
Top coat: Sally Hansen Super Shine

My favorite Brushes

My favorite brushes are mostly MAC brushes, but I also like The Body Shop brushes (a lot) and Sigma brushes. Linho requested that I do a post on what brushes I use most often, and here it is!

First off, I apply my foundation with my fingers. I find that works best because it makes everything look very even and smooth. I get streaks when I use my foundation brush and I find that using a brush like the 109 or the 187 (which I sometimes do when I am in the mood) makes the foundation less opaque and also, you need more product because the brush soaks it up. Since I am a lover of sheer foundations (MAC Mineralize Satinfinish) I do want a little opaqueness there at least, or else I would have no coverage at all.

Anyway, here are the face brushes that I use most often:

I love the SS 187 for blush because I can apply the color very sheer. I just stipple the blush onto my cheeks and then I start blending it in. This way I have a lot of control of where the color goes. My Body Shop large fluffy brush I did use a lot during the summer time to set my foundation with powder (MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural). Now that my skin gets drier from the heating during the winter, I mostly skip powdering my face. The 109 brush is a great brush for contouring, I use it mainly for that.

My favorite eye brushes:

These I use almost every day. I also clean them every day, after I get home from work. That has become a routine.

My favorite concealer brushes:

I use the 249 for concealing blemishes on my face. The brush from The Body Shop I use for my undereye circles with my Benefit Erase Paste. I kind of use it like a spatula: I get some product on the brush, then tap it off on the back of my hand and then apply a very thin layer. For my liquid concealer (MAC Select Moisturecover) I use my small Urban Decay fluffy brush, that came with a palette.
I hope you liked my little favorite brushes post, Linho, this was especially for you! :-)
Take care!

Sand Crystal Lips of the Day

Lips of the Day:
L' Oréal Glam Shine in 06 Sand Crystal

It's a sheer gloss with a golden shimmer and it goes with almost everything!

I am not sure if this shade is still available, but I recommend L' Oréal lip products in general. I love their Color Riche lipsticks and their Glam Shine glosses, more than the lip products from any other brand!

Halloween Zombie

Happy belated Halloween!!

I went to a Halloween party yesterday with my boyfriend and we had a blast! My boyfriend went as the Joker and I was a Zombie. With so many great Youtube Halloween tutorials up I wanted to try one out and decided for Kalel a.k.a. QueenBeeuty's Hollywood Quality Zombie:

Kalel's video can be found here:
Halloween Tutorial - HQ Zombie

Her homepage:
*edit: Kalel deleted her Halloween Tutorial on Youtube, unfortunately...

It was as easy as she said it would be and very inexpensive to do! I had a great night out and got lots of compliments. My boyfriend, however, got even more compliments, even though he put half the effort into his Joker face and it took him only 30 minutes to do (my Zombie face took me 1,5 hours) *g*. Well, anyway, here is my boyfriend's look:

And this is both of us:

I hope you had a great Halloween!
And Queenbeeuty: thanks a lot for your great tutorial!

Take care!

MAC Magic, Mirth, and Mischief

Hello everyone,
I went to the MAC holiday collection preview party yesterday and barely got in the door! :-) It was packed with people, everyone trying to catch a glimpse of the new products and you had to be careful not to be knocked over! There was a gorgeous model styled like the model in the promotion image, with an awesome dress made of metallic foils. You can go to Lilly's Blog to see pictures of the event she took with her camera!

I had made up a mental shopping list in order to know which way to run ;-) and this was it:
Eyeshadow Palette Smoke and Mirrors (which I got)
Eyeshadow Palette Devil May Dare (which I also got)
Mineralize Eyeshadow Devil-May-Care (which I passed on)
Dazzleglass She-Zam (I got Jingle Jangle instead)
Eye Pencil Iris Accents (which I didn't get)

All in all, there is something for everyone for sure!

I passed on the Mineralize Eyeshadows altogether because I didn't like the glitter part in them. It was very chunky and generally glitter is something I don't ever wear. Same goes for the eyepencils, they had silver glitter in them and I just didn't see myself wearing them. The Cremesheen Glasses looked very promising in the packaging, but when swatched showed almost no pigmentation, which is too bad because I like these milky pastel shades! I also liked the face kits with the blushes and powders in them, these will be hard to walk by next time I visit the MAC store!

As for the prices:
The eyeshadow palettes cost 42 Euro each and the Dazzleglass 19 Euro.

I am looking forward to see what you guys got from "Magic, Mirth, and Mischief"!
Take care!

Movie Tip: "Couples Retreat"

Hello everyone,
something completely beauty unrelated today:

I went to the sneak preview yesterday and, as always in the sneak preview, my boyfriend hopes for a horror movie and I hope for a comedy. Well, I was lucky yesterday!

They showed "Couples Retreat" and we all laughed our heads off!

The plot: Four couples embark on a journey to a tropical island resort. While one of the couples is there to work on their marriage, the other three set out to enjoy some fun in the sun. They soon discover that participation in the resort's couples therapy is not optional...

The film also stars Jean Reno and he is hilarious, but so is the rest of the cast!

Here is the official website:

I really recommend this movie, go see it in the original version (English) if possible, because I am not sure how much of the fun is lost in translation!

Take care!

Online Shopping - Store Links

Here is a list of online shops that I have shopped at and that I have had good experience with!

It is meant as an information source and I am aware that other people might not have had good experience with them. In other words: there is always a risk involved when buying online and one person might be lucky and the next person might not be. What I want to say: Ordering at these stores is at your own risk. But I have ordered there and would order again.

Please be aware that you need to check for yourself if the store ships to your country and what the custom laws of your country are.

Make-Up (European based) (European based) (for Germany, Austria and Poland)

Nail Polish and Supply (does not sell China Glaze outside of the U.S. anymore) (European based)

I will update this post as I discover other online shops so check back!

Take care!

Here are some swatches of the new Body Shop Metallic Eye Definers.

It was gorgeous as well but I didn't get it.
They cost 9,50 Euro each.
