Revlon PhotoReady Foundation

I went to drugstore Müller yesterday I spotted the new Revlon PhotoReady foundation. Five shades were available (not many, I know), they were:
Shell 003
Nude 004
Natural Beige 005
Golden Beige 008
Caramel 010

I picked up 005 Natural Beige for my NC30 olive undertone skin.

The big issue with this foundation, I knew from reading other blogs, were the sparkles on the face in direct sunlight. That is due to the reflecting pigments the foundation contains. I haven't yet had the opportunity to test that thoroughly, but you can see the tiny little sparkles in the picture with the drop which I took in direct sunlight yesterday afternoon.

Revlon promises on its website: poreless, airbrushed skin in any light and complete coverage with a soft, luminous finish. Oil free, fragrance free, with SPF 20.

This is how PhotoReady looks on my skin in direct sunlight:

There were definitely more sparkles on my skin than the camera was able to pick up. Through the lens it looked pretty flashy, which I normally don't like, I love a dewy finish but I hate glitter. So I have yet to make up my mind how much that bothers me (and if it's really that bad on my face).

I also took a picture with flash this morning:

I would say it photographs well with flash. It gave me medium coverage (probably a little more than medium since it was able to hide most of the pigment spots from past blemishes). On the closeup here you can see the sparkles a little better:

So I will try and test this foundation and if I love it, I will let you know!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Maybelline Rosewood Pearl Lips

Lips of the Day:

Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in shade
842 Rosewood Pearl

To be honest I found this a little hard to apply, I found the lipstick to be a little on the dryer side. I would say finishwise it's comparable to a MAC frost. I ended up topping it with a gloss. But the color is very pretty, very neutral and wearable, a true rosewood color.

Take care!

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

Hello everybody,

I got Nars Sheer Glow Foundation but I won't be able to tell you anything about because I got it for my pale winter skin and can't use it now :-(

But I'm excited to share the pictures! :-)

Nars is not available here in Vienna, so I got it at Bangkok airport on the way back from my vacation. I was undecided whether to get a darker shade for my newly tanned skin or whether to opt for a lighter shade for my winter skin. I finally decided for the lighter version, since I am this tan only once a year and for the rest of it I'm vegetating in pale misery at my office...

Anyhow, I had figured out at my computer at home I would probably need either shade Ceylan or Fiji, but I was really unsure when I was standing there at the Nars counter so I asked a saleslady for help. She suggested we try it on my inner wrist (since my face and arms were tanned) and she gave me Ceylan. We'll see how that works out. Nars describes Ceylan as light-medium with yellow undertone which I have, but it's geared more towards Asian skin so I think it might be a little too yellow for me. Comparing it to my other, lighter foundations at home (MAC NC20s and 25s) I also found it a tiny bit too light, but if that's the case, I'll order a darker shade online and then mix it.

So I am really sorry I can't tell you anything about the foundation yet, but I am sure I will be around Christmas :-)

Oh, what I wanted to mention:

there is a great foundation chart made by Temptalia and filled out by Temptalia readers:

If you need a little guidance and are unsure about your shade, this is a great help!

Have a great day!

MAC Viva Glam V

Lips of the Day:

MAC Viva Glam V

This is one of my favorite lipsticks from MAC, it also has my favorite MAC finish, namely lustre. The color itself is a muted mauve pink with a golden pearl and I wouldn't say that it goes with every eye makeup that you could think of, but nearly. On me, Viva Glam V definitely looks better when I got a little bit of a tan, when I am pale it almost looks too red-brownish on me, if that makes sense. So this is Viva Glam V on my NC 30 skin, for reference.

Take care!

Used Up: MAC Cremesheen Glass

Good morning everybody!

Since "Project 10 Pan/Kill your Cosmetics" is not working for me so well, I decided to post things as I use them up and make small reviews, so here we go:

MAC Cremesheen Glass in shade "Ever So Rich"

Cremesheen Glasses were first released with the Cremeteam Collection early 2009, then repromoted with the Magic, Mirth and Mischief Collection at Christmas and this year, 2010, with the Too Fabulous Collection. They have become permanent at MAC now.

After using up "Ever So rich", my final verdict would be: What you see is not what you get.

I bought the gloss last year at Christmas and, honestly, I am not very impressed! If you look at the promotional picture (courtesy of the lipgloss looks very much like a milky opaque lilac/pink.

But when you apply it it just looks like clear lipgloss, even worse, like a clear lipgloss whose tiny bit of color settles in the creases of your lips. To state my point, here come my bare lips opposed to "Ever so Rich" on my lips:

Bare lips

Cremesheen Glass "Ever So Rich"

So you're going to wonder how I used it all up if I didn't like it so much. Well, I kept it in my office drawer and used it like a lip balm to moisturize my lips during the day. Usually, I put on lipstick in the morning but then I don't reapply during the day. I am too lazy. But I do like a little something on my lips, and "Ever So Rich" was perfect for that. Plus, being sheer, it matched whatever eye makeup I wore that day ;-)

So would I repurchase? Nawwww... at least not this shade. I have another one, "Partial to Pink" which is a little more pigmented and which I have to use up first.

So all in all, here are my pros and cons:

Pros: very creamy, moisturizing, great smell, non-sticky (whether that's a real pro I don't know, since it means it won't last that long)
Cons: way too sheer, the price (€19,50 for 2.4ml)

Nyx Castle Lipstick

Lips of the Day:
Nyx Round Lipstick in shade "Castle"

I did this swatch before going on vacation but I never got round posting it. So my skin is still an NC 20 here.

Anyway, the color is richly pigmented and very creamy. It doesn't dry my lips out and so far, I have to say, I love Nyx Round Lipsticks. I only own 3 or 4, but they are all great!

Talk to you soon!

Back from Southeast Asia

Hello Lovelies!

I am back from vacation, we went backpacking to Malaysia and Thailand and it was pretty cool. I am so sad it's over now, I won't be able to go on a real vacation until next year, booohooooo....

So I am back at my desk at work and it sucks sucks sucks, but what can you do...

We had a great time! I have been to Thailand several times before, but it was my first trip to Malaysia. This was the view from our hotel in Kuala Lumpur, not too bad, right? :-) It was the 17th floor of Traders Hotel, which is right opposite the Petronas Towers.

Back in Thailand it was mostly beaches, sun and fun. We had about 35 degree Celsius and the occasional monsoon rain in the afternoon.

OF COURSE I came back with a makeup haul! :-)
My purchases started at Dubai airport (MAC). My boyfriend was rolling his eyes, he thought it was so ironic that we couldn't even get to our final destination without me buying some makeup :-)
In Kuala Lumpur I bought some Anna Sui at Suria Mall and at Bangkok airport I got the MAC Give me Liberty of London goodies that I wanted and the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (finally!).
Having said that I think it's worth noticing that I didn't wear any makeup on my vacation except sometimes lipstick for dinner! :-)
Oh, and when we got back and I wore a full face of makeup the first day, my boyfriend said, oh you look so pretty! Ha!!! He couldn't figure out what it was exactly that looked pretty (it was the peachy blush, shhhh!!) but I told him he better stop nagging about my makeup purchases!!

Talk to you all very soon!
